Ithaca, N.Y. - The women's track & field team hosted the Ithaca Invitational Tuesday. No team scores were kept. The Bombers won seven events, led by wins by freshman Marcia McCord (Rancocas Valley/Mount Holly, N.J.) in the 100-meter dash (12.92) and the long jump (4.85 meters/15-11). McCord also ran the anchor leg of the winning 400-meter relay team (50.00).
Joining McCord on the winning relay team were senior Leigh Klumpp (Windsor/Windsor) and freshmen Laura Gallup (Charles O. Dickerson/Trumansburg) and Laura Morehouse (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park). Morehouse was also the winner of the 200-meter dash (26.80). Klumpp was third in the event (26.98).
Three other Bombers were event winners Tuesday, with senior Alison Spivak (Franklin Delano Roosevelt/Staatsburg) winning the pole vault (3.10 meters/10-2). Sophomore Sarah Bennett (East Lyme/East Lyme, Conn.) was the winner of the triple jump (10.48 meters/34-04.75), while freshman Kristen DeStefano placed first in the 110-meter hurdles (17.04). DeStefano was also second in the pole vault (2.95 meters/9-8) and third in the javelin (22.97 meters/57.08).
Freshman Lucia Capano (Manchester Central/Manchester, N.H.) had a busy and successful day, posting five top-finishes. Capano placed second in both the long jump (4.55 meters/14-11 1/4) and the triple jump (9.97 meters/32-8 1/2), finished third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.44), ran with the fourth-place 400-meter relay team and was fifth in the javelin (17.57 meters/57-8). Capano also placed ninth in the high jump.
Freshman Christie O'Shea had a pair of second-place finishes, finishing second in the shot put (8.44 meters/27-8 1/4) and the javelin (25.32 meters/83.01).
Ithaca hosts the Empire 8 Conference Championships Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
